Double Glazing: Common Problems With Double Glazing

4 – When installing double glazed units putty should not be used. Linseed oil putty can react chemically with the sealants causing them to disintegrate.
5 – When fitting a casement window the fitter should check the alignment of the casement using a process known as toeing and heeling. this ensures that the window is square to the walls and ensures a perfect fit.
6 – One key thing to check when fitting a window is to ensure that timber frames that have been acting as a support for the wall above are not removed when installing a new window. This can have disastrous consequences resulting in structural failure.
7 – All windows and doors should be installed with an inset of a minimum of 10 mm into the opening.
8 – The absence or failure of lintels account for many double glazing problems. Even worse they are often not detected until a few weeks after the installation.
9 – It is essential that windows are manufactured with enough reinforcement to resist wind-loading. This stops the frames from deflecting.
10 – And finally windows should be fixed in using the right kind of fixing. Masonry bolts should be used and these should have a corrosion resistant coating to ensure longevity.
